Cancer Control Society: Over 50 Years of Fighting For Truth in Healing

For over half a century, the Cancer Control Society (CCS) has stood as a beacon of hope for those seeking non-toxic, nutritional, and natural answers to disease prevention and recovery. Founded in 1973, CCS has educated and empowered thousands through its tireless advocacy for complementary and alternative therapies—long before “integrative medicine” became a mainstream concept.
A Legacy Born from Courage and Faith
The story of the Cancer Control Society begins not in a boardroom, but with a woman’s determination to live. In 1959, Cecile Hoffman, a San Diego schoolteacher, was told her radical mastectomy had “removed all the cancer.” When the disease returned, doctors offered no hope. Her husband, searching desperately for answers, discovered Laetrile: Control for Cancer by Glen Kittler. The science within led him to Dr. E. T. Krebs Jr. and the McNaughton Foundation in Montreal—one of the few places in the world where Laetrile (Vitamin B17) therapy was being used.
Cecile’s recovery defied every medical prediction. When her doctor in California refused to continue the therapy, she crossed the border to Dr. Ernesto Contreras Sr. in Tijuana, Mexico—whose compassionate and scientifically grounded work became legendary. Her healing inspired a movement.
By 1963, Cecile founded the International Association of Cancer Victims and Friends, which grew rapidly across the United States. From this foundation, the Cancer Control Society was formally incorporated in 1973 to share life-saving information and provide education about complementary and alternative therapies.
Pioneers Who Dared to Challenge the System
CCS was shaped by visionary leaders:
Betty Lee Morales, the Society’s first president—known as the First Lady of Nutrition—who championed natural food and education worldwide.
Lorraine Rosenthal, a zoologist from UC Berkeley, whose curiosity and passion for nutrition helped establish CCS’s scientific credibility.
Norman Fritz, an aeronautical engineer turned health freedom advocate, who played a key role in founding the first Gerson Hospital in Tijuana in 1977.
Their shared conviction was simple but radical: Patients have the right to knowledge—and the right to choose healing that honors both the body and the spirit.
Frank Cousineau: A Torchbearer for Truth
Among those who carried that conviction forward was Frank Cousineau, who served as president of the Cancer Control Society for decades until his passing in 2025.
Frank’s journey began in 1973, when his mother’s cancer diagnosis led him to Dr. Contreras in Tijuana. The treatment not only prolonged her life—it changed his. Marrying Dr. Contreras’s secretary, he became immersed in the world of alternative medicine and founded Life Support, a company that supplied natural and innovative products to hospitals and clinics around the world.
Through his leadership, CCS grew from a grassroots movement into an international organization hosting annual Cancer Control Conventions in Los Angeles and Japan—bringing together researchers, doctors, and patients to exchange ideas and evidence on non-toxic therapies.
Frank’s passing marked the end of an era—but not the end of the mission. His lifelong dedication reminds us that truth in healing must be protected and passed forward.

Over Five Decades of Hope and Education
Every year since its founding, the Cancer Control Society Convention served as a global forum for medical freedom. Hundreds of doctors, scientists, and patients gathered together to share discoveries in metabolic and nutritional therapy, detoxification, and immune system restoration. The Society consistently organized tours of alternative hospitals in Tijuana, where visitors witness integrative medicine in action and meet the doctors continuing the work that began with pioneers like Contreras and Richardson.
Through these efforts, CCS remained steadfastly focused on what truly matters: helping patients find options, information, and hope. CCS existed to connect people directly with practical, life-changing solutions.
A Torch Passed to a New Generation
Over the decades, one generation of advocates has handed the torch to the next. From Hoffman and Morales to Contreras and Cousineau, each leader faced resistance from a medical establishment unwilling to accept the power of nature’s design. Yet their collective perseverance built the foundation for today’s global resurgence of interest in non-toxic, nutrition-based healthcare.
With Frank Cousineau’s passing in 2025, the call became clear: new torchbearers must rise.
Operation World Without Cancer (OWWC) stands proudly among those continuing this vital mission—honoring the legacy of CCS while advancing the same truth: that the answers to cancer may already be found in the foods we eat, the freedom we protect, and the faith we hold.
Continuing the Legacy
Today, the Cancer Control Society’s influence extends worldwide, its mission intertwined with organizations like Operation World Without Cancer, which share the same goal: to restore medical freedom, empower informed choices, and make cancer history—through truth, education, and love for humanity.
